Let’s Not Forget Our Own!

By Megan Shadrick September 10, 2017

Winds, Rain, and Fires have so many families needing help right now. Many people have already donated funds, supplies, and their time to help these families and communities clean-up, rebuild, and find a new normal. My heart breaks for these families and all they have lost and the struggles they will face for months to come. But, I can’t help also thinking of those in our community that need our support and those that have experienced loss and life altering events; behind our local cameras. This has been on my mind for the past week while seeing all the amazing things local families were doing for those in Texas. While scrolling through one of my facebook groups I saw someone post that they lost their home and everything two months ago and were finally getting into a new home. They were asking people to think of them if they were getting rid of anything as they were starting completely over with nothing.

As I write this the number of families needing help in Florida sadly continues to grow. It is difficult for many of us to financially help everyone as much as we would like to. How do we help those currently impacted by Hurricanes and Fires while not forgetting our own families in need in our community? I don’t have the answer to this however; I encourage you to not forget our local families. If only we could multiply our funds with the wave of a magic wand so our local families also in need don’t feel the impact of funds going elsewhere…

These are just a few things on my mind this week while I watch so many families impacted by winds, rain, and fire. May you and your family continue to stay safe during these scary and unfortunate times.
