Nextdoor Popping-up In Our Neighborhoods

By Megan Shadrick, Publisher February 4, 2018

There was a time when neighbors talked and knew what was going on in their neighborhood. Thanks to busy lives and social media a lot of neighbors no longer talk or have a clue what is going on down the street or around the block. I have noticed a lot more Nextdoors popping-up around here and wanted to make sure you were all aware of this communication option for neighborhoods.

As stated on their website; “Nextdoor is the private social network for your neighborhood. Nextdoor is the best way to stay informed about what’s going on in your neighborhood—whether it’s finding a last-minute babysitter, planning a local event, or sharing safety tips.”

You can utilize Nextdoor via their website or app.

Start by searching for your address to see if a Nextdoor Neighborhood exists for your area. If one already exists you can start posting and reading messages once your information has been confirmed. If Nextdoor isn’t in your area you can try to get one started. When we lived on the East end of Jeff City we had a flyer in our mailbox one day telling us how to join. We recently had Nextdoor start-up in December where we live now. I’m not sure how the word has spread but we have had families joining. Our local Police Chief has been taking advantage of this platform to share messages; in addition to lost pets and vehicle break-in messages from neighbors.
