The Pantry has moved, changed food distribution day

Still offers free food, help with meal planning and volunteering opportunities

By Amanda Stapp May 21, 2018

This Saturday, May 26, will mark the first food distribution day at The Pantry’s new location, 3702 W. Truman Blvd., Suite 122. Across from Hy-Vee, behind Domenico’s Restaurant, guests will find the same warm welcome from Director Kolbi Ward.

“Everyone is welcome!” she said. “If you have a need, we are here to help!”

The Pantry provides guests with enough food to feed a family for about three days. Additionally, each family receives recipes to prepare meals with ingredients that cost less than $5 and feed at least six people. The Pantry also supports their guests by offering help creating a meal plan, grocery shopping on a budget or learning how to prepare meals.

Volunteers welcome

Ward hosts a pantry prep day on the second Monday of each month to help evaluate food levels and prepare food for the month’s distribution day.

“We love our volunteers and our prep day is family-friendly,” she said.

People of all skill levels, including children, can help make a difference, Ward said.

Volunteers can also help on Distribution Day, now the fourth Saturday of each month from 1-7 p.m.

“We just ask that volunteers RSVP, through email, our website or Facebook, to let us know they are coming,” Ward said. “We like to know how many people to expect and want to be able to contact them in case times or dates change.”

Other ways to help

If you would like to donate food, The Pantry has a wish list of specific food needs based on the meals created to distribute each month. Check the website to see what their current and most immediate needs are at thepantryjc.org. The Pantry also accepts monetary donations.

Distribution Days are the fourth Saturday of each month from 1-7 at The Pantry, 3702 W. Truman, Suite 122.
