Spotlight on Helen Haynes: JCMA’s Inspiring Music Teacher

By Chelsea Hesketh-Youss, Publisher for Macaroni KID Jefferson City - Fulton May 26, 2024

The Jefferson City Music Academy is home to many talented educators, but one name stands out for her dedication to early childhood music education: Helen Haynes. With a passion for nurturing young minds through music, Helen has been instrumental in introducing the innovative Musikgarten approach to her students.

Musikgarten: A Musical Journey for Young Learners

The Musikgarten method is a comprehensive, holistic approach to music education, designed specifically for young children. It emphasizes the importance of a child's natural curiosity and playfulness in learning. Through singing, movement, listening, and playing simple instruments, children develop a strong foundation in music. This method not only enhances their musical abilities but also supports their overall cognitive, emotional, and social development.

Helen Haynes has been a devoted advocate of the Musikgarten approach, integrating its principles into her teaching at the Jefferson City Music Academy. Her classes are lively and engaging, fostering a love for music in even the youngest of students.

Jefferson City Music Academy is actively enrolling for their summer session, all class descriptions and enrollment information can be found on Jefferson City Music Academy's website

Upcoming Event: Music Fun at MRRL

To share her passion and expertise with a broader audience, Helen Haynes will be hosting a special event at the Missouri River Regional Library (MRRL) on May 28th. This event, tailored for children ages 0-6, promises a delightful introduction to the world of music. Through interactive activities and hands-on experience, children will get a taste of the joy and benefits that Musikgarten offers.

This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to see firsthand the impact of early music education and to meet a local educator who is making a significant difference in the community. Whether your child is already showing an interest in music or you’re looking for a new, enriching activity, Helen Haynes’ Musikgarten session at MRRL is an event not to be missed.

Mark your calendars for May 28th and join Helen Haynes for a morning of musical exploration and fun at the Missouri River Regional Library. There will be two sessions broken up by ages 0-3 years old and 3-6 years old. Your child will thank you for it!

Personal Testimony From Your Publisher:

As a mom of two young children, I am constantly on the lookout for activities that can help them grow and develop in fun and engaging ways. I decided to enroll my two-year-old and five-year-old in a local music class, and it has been one of the best decisions I've made for their early education.

From the very first class, I noticed a difference in both of them. My two-year-old, who is usually quite shy, started to come out of her shell. The class is filled with songs, rhythms, and movements that capture her attention and make her giggle with joy. She’s become more confident in expressing herself and even tries to sing along with the songs we’ve learned.

My five-year-old, on the other hand, has always been full of energy and curiosity. The structured yet playful environment of the music class has been perfect for him. He loves learning about different instruments, and his favorite part is when he gets to play the drums and tambourine.

What I appreciate most about the music class is how it fosters a love for music in both of my children. It’s not just about learning notes and beats; it’s about enjoying the process of making music together. I’ve also noticed that these classes have helped with their social skills. They’ve made new friends and learned how to cooperate and share in a group setting. It’s heartwarming to see them excited about going to class each week and to witness their progress over time.
